I use my laptop as a desktop computer most days, which means that I plug it into monitor with an HDMI cable, connect it to a set of speakers with a 3.5mm cable, and hook up a bunch of other accessories by plugging in a 7-port USB hub.

Every time I want to take the laptop somewhere, I have to unplug all those cables, and every time I return to my desk I have to plug them back in. So I’ve had my eye on USB docking stations that would allow me to attach everything with a single cable.

I still haven’t pulled the trigger on one, but today I’m kind of tempted. NeweggFlash is offering discounts on a bunch of Wavlink docking stations, networking gear, and other PC accessories.

Here are some of the day’s best deals.

  1. Bought 3 different Wavlink USB 3.0 hubs. Two of
the three were defective out of the box. In one, not
all the ports worked (the SD card port wasn’t recognized
by the PC), the hub did not come with drivers. In
another, the hub itself was not recognized (it also
didn’t come with drivers) so naturally none of the USB
3.0 ports was recognized either. So I am done with
the brand. I’ve found Kensington and Plugable docking
stations to work flawlessly out of the box.
