Liliputing’s Amazon Prime Day deals roundup (7-16-2018)

07/13/2018 at 6:00 PM by Brad Linder 14 Comments

Amazon is running its annual Prime Day sale for a day and a half this year, with deals starting at 12:00PM Pacific/3:00PM Eastern on July 16th and running through the day on July 17th.

In order to score deep discounts on select Amazon gadgets and decent discounts on thousands of other items, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member, but you can sign up for a free trial if you’re cot already a member. After the trial ends, membership runs $119 per year or $12.99 per month and includes free 2-day shipping, access to Amazon Music Unlimited, Amazon Prime Video, discounts at Whole Foods, and a bunch of other perks.

You can browse the sale, watch deals to get an alert when they’re available, get sneak peeks in the Amazon app starting July 9th, or use Alexa to shop by voice.

Or you can check out our list of some of the best deals I could find:

Britain seems skeptical.
“Amazon Prime Day deals ‘not what they seem'”
By Brian Milligan BBC
….However, Which? warned that some goods could be bought more cheaply outside the promotion period.
“Although these time-limited sales events can offer great discounts, not all offers will be as good as they seem,” said Adam French, Which? consumer rights editor.

and further examples of even price increases.

Thus the value of curated lists like this one — I’m not promising that everything in this list is at an all-time low (although some items, like the $20 Fire TV Stick absolutely are). But for the most part everything featured in this list is being sold at a deep discount.

I do wonder why anyone would buy a Moto G6 for $260 when you could get an Essential Phone with twice the storage and a much faster processor for $10 less. But I’ve included both because they’re both being sold well below their normal prices.

Personally I’d probably go for the X4 over either of those. Not a fan of the G6, and not a fan of power hungry 800 series Snapdragon processors. Downside–only 32GB storage and 3GB ram.

Here’s a great deal! /sarc

If you buy the 3 pack of these CO detectors, the special Prime Day pricing is only $2 or $3 more than if you buy three separately! (I’ve never understood why so many things are way more expensive on Amazon if you buy a 2 or 3 pack.)

Turns out that’s a lightning deal set to go live at 2:45PM Eastern today. I’ve been trying to avoid posting Lightning Deals here because it’s a pain to keep on top of them all and I’d rather just share things that will be on sale all day. But NVIDIA didn’t make that one clear ahead of time.

Hmmm, looks like that one may have been 7/16 only. I’ll remove it from the list now.

It looks like the Pixelbook deal and some of the other deals might be even better if you use an amazon prime credit card. There’s a 15% back offer. For the $750 Pixelbook that’s an extra $112.
