After hitting the FCC in April, it looks like the Kobo Clara HD eBook reader is set to hit the streets in the coming weeks.

Kobo still hasn’t made any official announcements yet, but Notebook Italia spotted one of several listings for the new device at online retail sites, giving us a pretty good idea of what it will look like and how much it will cost.

The Kobo Clara HD should be available in late May or early June for around 129 Euros (which probably means it’ll sell for roughly $129 in the US).

The device features a 6 inch E Ink display with Kobo’s “Comfortlight Pro” technology, which means that not only is the screen illuminated for comfortable reading in the dark, but it can also change color to reduce the amount of blue light when you’re reading at night. Some folks find these sorts of blue light filters to make it easier to fall asleep after looking at smartphone, tablet, or PC screens at night… but it’s unclear if that’s a necessary feature for an eReader which has a light that shines on the screen from the sides rather than one where the light shines toward your eyes.

Anyway, Kobo Clara HD features include 8GB of storage, a 1,500 mAh battery (said to be good for weeks of use), and 802.11n WiFi.

The Digital Reader also reports it’ll have an E Ink Carta display with 300 pixels per inch, and that the device weighs 5.9 ounces, measures 0.3 inches thick, and lacks an SD card slot or Bluetooth.

  1. Damn, I was hoping for a Kobo mini 2, 5″ screen, waterproof, and light for backpacking use. Oh yeah and a 2500 mAh battery, weight of 4 oz and price of $50…is that too much to ask.

  2. I have my Kindle with the E-Ink screen. The battery lasts a long time and makes it easier to read. It should be true with this one. One can carry a lot of e-books with such a e-book reader.

  3. I know eBooks don’t take up a lot of storage, but why is it so hard for eReader manufacturers to include a microSD card? That would make it easier to transfer books from older eReader devices to the new one.

    1. They used to commonly have SD card slots years ago. These days, you only find them in brands that don’t have their own store though. They are probably worried about piracy, and also want to make it inconveniet to add books so that you use their store. I decided to get a refurbished Kindle Paperwhite Manga edition with 32gb for about $100 on Woot. Good as new. Would rather have an SD slot though. Imagine society collapses, but you have every known textbook and manual PDF from physiology to gardening to engine repair, in a pocket full of SD cards. And a small solar panel for the reader, of course.

  4. I’m more interested if Overdrive software will be included.
