HP is updating its business-class Elite x2 detachable tablet with a new model that sports a 13 inch display, but a body that’s about the same size as last year’s 12.3 inch model, thanks to side bezels that are 39 percent smaller. It also has a kickstand that folds back further, giving you a wider range of viewing angle options.

The new HP Elite x2 1013 G3 also features an 8th-gen Intel Core processor, a new HP Active Pen that charges via a USB Type-C cable, and optional support for HP’s Sure View technology, which lets you tap a button to prevent anyone from spying at your screen over your shoulder by severely limiting the viewing angles.

HP says the new tablet will be available in June for $1499 and up.

The tablet measures 11.8″ x 9.1″ x 0.3″ and weighs about 1.8 pounds. With the detachable keyboard, that goes up to 0.5 inches and 2.6 pounds.

Under the hood, the system supports Core i3-8130U dual-core through Core i7-8650U quad-core processor options, up to 16GB of DDR3-2133 memory, and up to 1TB of PCIe NVMe solid state storage.

HP offers 13 inch 1920 x 1280 and 3000 x 2000 pixel display options, and the tablet has Thunderbolt 3/USB Type-C ports, plus one more USB 3.1 Type-C port and a headset jack. While there are no Ethernet or HDMI jacks, you can use any of those ports to connect an adapter or dock.

There’s a 3 microphone array and B&O stereo speakers, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, and an IR camera for Windows Hello facial recognition. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the back of the computer so you can access it even if the keyboard’s not handy. And the computer offers optional support for 4G LTE.

The keyboard is backlit and features HP’s collaboration key features for controlling web conferencing calls, among other things.

  1. I continually read comments about thinner bezels on these tablets. I have one of these devices, any thinner and I can’t grasp the device. If the bezels are thinner than my thumb, I’ll pass. I imagine the G3’s are also not fanless. For me…I’m glad they got the G1’s correct. I’ll stick to my Core M devices…they’re the bees knees but again…across the board, people berated this chip. For a tablet, it doesn’t get any better in my opinion. At least a fanless tablet. The old sticking a big engine in a small car still survives today, just under a different guise.
