HP is updating its Pavilion x360 line of entry-level convertibles. The new models come with a choice of 14 or 15.6 inch displays, but they’re a bit smaller than their predecessors thanks to slimmer borders around the display.
They’re also more powerful, thanks to the move to 8th-gen Intel Core U-series processors. And HP has added optional support for features including a fingerprint sensor and a “world-facing” wide-angle camera above the keyboard (where it will face outward if you’re using the computer in tablet or tent modes).
The new HP Pavilion 14 x360 should be available in May or June for $500 and up, while the updated HP Pavilion x360 will sell for $760 and up.
HP says the new models have screen bezels that are just 6.5mm across, compared with the 12.7mm bezels on last year’s models.
The 14 inch model measures about 12.7″ x 8.8″ a 0.8″ and weighs 3.7 pounds with a 41 Wh battery, while the 15.6 inch model is 14″ x 9.6″ x 0.8″ and 4.6 pounds with a 48 Wh battery. Both support an optional HP Pen for inking.
If you opt for the cheapest configuration, you’ll get a 14 inch convertible notebook with a 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display, a Core i3-8130U dual-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive.
But HP will also offer a 14 inch version with a Core i5-8250U processor, 128GB of solid state storage, a full HD IPS display, and an IR camera for $730.
HP’s $760 15.6 inch model has the Core i5 processor and full HD display, but it features a 1TB hard drive instead of solid state storage.
Each model has an edge-to-edge display, DDR4-2400 memory (not user accessible), USB 3.1 Type-C and USB 3.1 Type-A ports, HDMI and headset jacks, B&O Play stereo speakers, and 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth.
