Deals of the Day (3-22-2018)

03/22/2018 at 10:00 AM by Brad Linder 4 Comments

Amazon is selling all of its Fire tablets for at least 20% off today, which means you can pick up a Fire tablet for $40, a Fire HD 8 for $60, or a Fire HD 10 for $120.

I still consider the Fire HD 8 to be the sweet spot: it offers a better screen, a faster processor, and more RAM than the entry-level model, but it doesn’t cost much more. And if you’re not happy sticking to Amazon’s ecosystem, you can load the Google Play Store or sideload apps from third-party stores.

The company is also offering discounts on a variety of other items including the Echo Spot, Echo Show, Echo Plus, and Fire TV.

Here are some of the day’s best deals.

Amazon Fire tablets

  • Amazon Fire 7″ tablet for $40 and up – Amazon
  • Amazon Fire HD 8″ tablet for $60 and up – Amazon
  • Amazon Fire HD 10″ tablet for $120 and up – Amazon
  • Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition for $80 – Amazon
  • Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition for $100 – Amazon

Amazon Echo devices

  • Amazon Echo Spot for $104 – Amazon
  • Amazon Echo Plus for $120 – Amazon
  • Amazon Echo Show for $160 – Amazon

Audio and video

  • Amazon Fire TV (4K HDR) for $55 – Amazon
  • Bose QuietComfort 25 noise canceling headphones for $160 – Best Buy

Logitech PC accessories (keyboards, mice, speakers)

  • Logitech PC accessory sale – Amazon

  • Logitech MK345 wireless mouse & keyboard for $20 – Staples
  • Logitech MK530 advanced wireless keyboard & mouse for $25 – Best Buy

I have both the 8 and the 10, using the smaller one for reading books and the larger one for magazines and video. They are adequate for that type of purpose, where for other tablet purposes they might lack a bit of power, particularly if you switch between programs a lot. It might be more of a memory issue than a processor issue.

Thanks for the heads up, I just grabbed one. I’ve been waiting for the 8″ 16GB to go back on sale. I needed an additional tablet around the house for media consumption and road trips.

I bought an 8 as a child’s Christmas gift when it was on sale for $50. I also bought a 7 for my self for $30 so that I could help with any problems or questions he might have. I was surprised with how nice the 7 is and how similar Fire OS is to Android 6 on my Samsung Tab E. Sideloading a few of my favorite apps was a breeze.

I used to be skeptical about the Fire tablets because of Fire OS, but now I highly recommend them for people who just need a basic tablet.

I don’t mind the Fire OS at all, although I have had a few minor issues with apps downloaded from the Google Play Store.
