Another day, another cheap, tiny computer from the folks who make the Orange Pi line of Raspberry Pi lookalikes.

This time it’s the Orange Pi One Plus, a mini computer with an Allwinner H6 V200 quad-core, ARM Cortex-A53 processor and ARM Mali-T720MP2 graphics.

Probably the most interesting thing about this little computer? It can support 4K and HDR content… and it sells for just $20 (plus shipping).

The little computer features 1GB of RAM, a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of storage, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, an HDMI 2.0a port with support for up to 4K60 content, a USB 2.0 port, and a micro USB port.

There’s also a power jack, a 26-pin header for expansion, and the whole thing measures just 68mm x 48mm (2.6″ x 1.9″) and weighs 50 grams (1.7 ounces).

At launch the Orange Pi One Plus supports Android 7.0, but developers are hoping to port Ubuntu and/or Debian Linux to run on the devices. There are already Linux image available for most other Orange Pi products, but this is the first to use the Allwinner H6 chip.

As CNX-Software notes, that chip should support USB 3.0 and other features not included in this board. But since the Orange Pi One Plus seems to be a minor update to a single-board computer released nearly 2 years ago, it’s possible that the company simply repurposed an existing design, added a new processor, upgraded the RAM and HDMI port, and called it a day.

  1. Allwinner is just one of those shitty Chinese companies that anyone should avoid. Their Linux support is garbage, almost nothing works out of the box because they simply don’t care about mainlining their own damn SoCs nor do they maintain a public repository. The kernel of that SBC will very likely be based on a legacy EOL Linux 3.x branch with old blobs because the SoC BSP will probably never be updated.

    Mainline Linux on Allwinner boards is a joke, the Mali GPU, hardware acceleration, VPU, h/w codecs won’t work. Sure, the sunxi community is doing a great job but their progress is slow. Even the A10 which was released 7 years ago is only now getting mainline HDMI output support but most of the other stuff is still mostly broken. Combine that with Allwinner’s hostility towards the open source community and multiple GPL violations and you’ve pretty much got a DOA platform.

    1. What about Android O.S. support ? Maybe ARM architecture aims the Android community. Does anybody know if it is possible to make a USB modem to work on Android so that we can receive SMS messages (for WhatsApp registration) ?

  3. I think it is a nice little computer with a nice little price. Makes me wonder how creative one could get with cases for it.
