In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, today is the holiday to consumerism that is called Black Friday. All sorts of stores across the United States, and many abroad, are running sales on select items today… some of which are better than others.

But as is often the case, you don’t even need to leave your home to score some of the best deals. We’ve got a rather massive write-up of tech-related deals, but here are some of my favorites. In fact, I already ordered a $25 Fire TV Stick and a $48 Roku Streaming Stick Plus to replace the aging 2014 Fire TV Sticks we’ve been using in our household.

I’m tempted to grab a Bluetooth speaker too, but the UE Mini Boombox I’ve been using for the last 4-5 years refuses to die, so I guess I’ll keep it around for a while longer.

Anyway, here’s a curated list of some of this year’s best Black Friday deals. Note that some of these prices will also be good on Cyber Monday (including many of the deals on Amazon Echo, Kindle, and Fire devices… and Amazon will also be offering 40 percent off the price of a Kindle Unlimited subscription on Monday, so now’s as good a time as any to pick up a Kindle).

Media Streamers

  1. Is it me, or nobody is releasing any interesting tablets these days! Not even for the holiday season.
I.e. besides Amazon (targeting low-cost), Apple (targeting premium) and everybody else who simply dumps trash all over… I am seeking to replace my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and there is nothing I could choose to take other than the Lenovo P8 (Tab 3 Plus), the Honor Pad 2 or the Mi Pad 3… but support for those will be zero!!
Long gone are the days of the Nexus, the G Pad or the Z3 Compact Tablet…

    1. Nobody’s releasing them because nobody’s buying them. Smartphones have simply become too ubiquitous for tablets to compete with them. I just bought a new Fire HD 10 from Amazon because I like to use a tablet to watch TV and movies while on the long haul flights I take and my Nexus 10 is no longer keeping a charge, but that too is a special case. Since I bought my LG G2 — my first real smart phone — I’ve rarely felt the need to pick up a tablet.

      1. yes, the competition from smartphones is one of the reasons. In my case, I pickup my tablet because I read better on 8.4 than 4.7! And I don’t see myself carrying anything bigger than 5″ in my pocket. Hence I must be one of the few tablet customers left.
For me the PC is used at work plus at home when heavy editing is needed. Most the times my tablet is the go to device for internet (or the smart-tv for netflix)…
Like yourself, my tab pro 8.4 is starting to have battery problems and I am going to give a refurbished Fire HD 8 a chance.
I would go with something else, but on my side of the pond, electronics can be expensive.
