Lenovo is the latest company to kick off a some-time-in-November sale and call it an Early Black Friday Sale. But while Lenovo may be a few weeks early, the sale is pretty nice, with deals that offer as much as 30 percent off some ThinkPad laptops.

Note that the discount applies to the list price, and not the already-discounted prices you’ll see on the website. And note that the deals I’ve highlighted below mention the starting prices… but you’ll almost certainly want to upgrade the RAM, storage, display, or other options which will drive up the price.

Still, now’s a pretty good time to buy a thin-and-light ThinkPad… as long as you’re cool with picking up a model with a 7th-gen Intel Core processor rather than a newer 8th-gen chip. I couldn’t find any deals on models with 8th-gen chips or AMD Ryzen Mobile processors.

Here are some of the day’s best deals.

  1. The Lenovo Ideapad 720S isn’t a good deal when you can get the updated version with an 8th gen chip and an Nvidia MX150 for the same price at Micro Center.

  2. Yup, Thinkpads typically refresh only once a year. New models are announced at CES in January and become available around March. I learned this by painfully awaiting the refresh for the Thinkpad Yoga 370 with an 8th gen, then finding out that the Ideapad Yoga 720 13 was already updated weeks prior.

However, in a very not typical mode, they just added the new Ideapad Yoga 720 12 this week, which is quite sexy indeed. However, it is currently hampered by 7th gen processors.
