OnePlus is holding an event to officially unveil the OnePlus 5T smartphone next week. But it looks like someone spilled the beans a bit early.

A set of pictures including a photo of the retail packaging, a comparison with several other phones, and spec sheets have been leaked. They all seem pretty plausible when you consider what we already know about the phone from previous leaks.

Now I guess we’re just waiting for the pricing information.

As expected, the OnePlus 5T shares a lot of features with the OnePlus 5. Both phones feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors, 3300 mAh batteries, USB 2.0 Type-C ports, 3.5mm audio jacks, and NFC. And come in two memory and storage configurations:

  • 6GB/64GB
  • 8GB/128GB

Here’s what’s new: the OnePlus 5T has a 6.01 inch, 2160 x 1080 pixel AMOLED display with 401 pixels per inch and an 18:9 (or 2:1) aspect ratio. It’s said to support sRGB and DCI-P3 color profiles. And the display is surrounded by relatively slim bezels.

OnePlus has also updated the rear cameras. There are still dual cameras, and the primary camera is still a 16MP Sony IMX 398 camera. But the secondary has a telephoto lens and a 20MP Sony IMX 376K sensor with an f/1.7 aperture (up from the f/2.6 aperture on the OnePlus 5’s Sony IMX 350 camera).

On paper the new phone is a modest upgrade. It has the same pixel density, a slightly better camera system, and smaller top and bottom bezels. But that last part is what makes the OnePlus 5T look more like a 2017 flagship than the OnePlus 5 that came out earlier this year.

    1. Greed happened.

The OnePlus One was €299 (now €499, an increase of €200 or +67%).
The Samsung Galaxy S flagships was €499 (now €699, an increase of €200 or +40%).
The Apple iPhone was €599 (now €909, an increase of €309 or +52%).

Average prices for flagships have increased by €250, or +50%.

*prices based on Medium/Sensible Storage option, and Germany which has the best median prices, reflective of the International Market.

  1. Ugh, 2:1 aspect ratio makes it a non-starter. Web browsing and movies are not ideal in this aspect ratio. Also, do we know if OnePlus really has stopped the massive data collection from it’s users?

    1. That’s pretty much the main thing differentiating this from the OnePlus 5. So if you prefer 16:9, you can still… actually wait, no. It’s out of stock. You’re probably right to be annoyed.

  2. Nougat out of the box= no project treble=difficult to update over the long term…too bad otherwise this could be a decent choice if the price was right…

  3. Yawn…
I don’t see why someone who has a “bad” ZTE Axon 7 (or a Galaxy S7) would need to upgrade to this.
If you’re in the market for a new phone today, the Galaxy S8 could now be had for €550 which is much better than this, and they’re at the same price. Or consider the above two phones for something on a budget.

    1. P.S. If they announce the OnePlus 5t with mass-availability soon, and a new price of ~€400… then it would be an arguable product. Any lower price, highly doubtful, and it becomes a good value choice.

If they announce it for €550 (as rumoured), its a flat-out rip off/bad value.
Even at €500 its a bad value.

      Let’s see.

  4. when does the CF lottery start to apply for a chance to get one 1-2 years down the road,,,they lost me when they pulled all that shenanigans a couple of years ago,,,NEVER SETTLE for them again
