  2. Please stay away from the Ultra Fits. They are infamous for having heat issues that affect both speed and reliability.

    1. While mine does get hot, it’s not enough to burn me, just enough to be uncomfortable. I haven’t experienced any speed or reliability issues and I’ve had it for a while and used it almost everywhere.

      I have the 128GB USB 3.0 version and I used it to move my large games around (like WoW+Diablo) from my PC to my ultrabook to my NUC and I’ve never had issues with it. In fact, I used to leave it in my ultrabook and play the games from it. I’d move it from the ultrabook to my NUC to play from that and all is well there too. It’s still in use today, albeit to move around smaller files like my music and purchased movies, etc. since I purchased an actual gaming notebook. While it gets hot, the data is fine (and has never been corrupted/lost) and it’s never ruined any of my USB ports. I’ve used it on my PC, my tablet(s), my ultrabook, my gaming notebook, my mini PCs like my NUC and Brix and various usb hubs. As it’s never gotten hot enough to burn me, I doubt it can burn plastic. I do and have only use it in my USB 3.0/3.1 ports. I don’t know if using them in a USB 2.0 port would make any difference in terms of heat buy I bought it to xfer data quickly, so I have no use for it at USB 2.0 speeds.

      I see no reason therefore, to tell folks to stay away from them as long as they keep in mind that they do put out more heat than your typical flash drive (so don’t let it surprise you). I would also put it in a well ventilated area vs. say inside a closed up cabinet with other things giving off heat. If you already know that it gets as hot as it does on it’s own, you don’t really want to tempt fate. 30 for 128GB is a nice deal. Your next best bet would be 55-60 for a 120-128GB SSD + a case for it if you don’t already own one, at 10 or so, a faster but also physically larger alternative.
