Amazon Prime Day kicks off tonight at 9:00PM Eastern and runs through midnight on July 11th. If you have an Alexa-powered device you can also get started a bit early: the first Prime Day Alexa deals go live at 7:00PM.
I’ve rounded up some of the best deals below. But if you want to just know some of my favorites, I’ve got another list that’s much shorter. (Gizmodo, by the way, is tracking some of the worst deals, in case you’re curious).
Amazon’s third-annual made-up sales holiday includes deep discounts on a bunch of deals that will be available as long as supplies last, with new deals popping up throughout the day.
The only catch? You need to be an Amazon Prime member to score any of the deals. The good news is that if you’re not currently a member you can sign up for a free 30-day trial and cancel before the end of the month if you don’t want to keep getting perks (like free music streaming, free shipping on many items, and free movie and TV show streaming).
Is this whole thing just an excuse for Amazon to sell stuff and get you to sign up? Sure. But it’s also one of the best times of the year to pick up some items: Amazon is offering some of the best-ever pricing on its Fire 7 tablet, Echo and Echo Dot smart speakers, and other items.

Of course, Prime Day isn’t the only day to score deals on mobile tech and related products, and Amazon isn’t the only store. Make sure to check out our daily deals section for more recent deals on all sorts of gadgets.
Any of those speakers works with the Echo or do we have to buy the Tap for it? I refuse to pay practically the same for the Tap that I would pay for the Echo!
Early days yet and I suppose it’s different for everyone, as not everyone is interested in purchasing the same things. But for me, the best deal I’ve seen so far in all of this is the Google Home plus Chromecast for $99.
That’s not on Amazon of course as Amazon doesn’t carry the Google products that compete with its own.
Prime day started in Europe about 1h ago… nothing special according to most people…
20% on Warehouse deals seems to be the one attractive thing…
Why, oh WHY, do I have a CDMA carrier? All these GSM-only phones for so cheap, and I can’t use any of them.
Oh well, at least my phone works more than 5 miles away from house :^)
Check out the Moto G5 Plus, Amazon version. Not sure if it will go on sale as part of Prime Day, but $239 for 4GB/64GB is not a bad deal (or 2GB/32GB for less), and it works on all four major carriers. It’s faster than an LG G4 (and probably most other 2 YO flagships), and it sips on the battery very slowly.
I’ve heard fantastic things about the G5 Plus. Unfortunately, it’s just soooooo ugly. I miss that old Motorola design – the Moto G4 was the pinnacle of Moto design. I miss the dimple 🙁
I say that and I’ve got a Motorola Droid Turbo (2014), which is a pretty ugly honker of a phone.
It is sort of retro, but I really don’t care for benzel-less designs and really hate the curved edge screens. The biggest downside the the phone is no NFC on the US model, no dual simm on the US model, and the speakerphone speaker being the earpiece.
BTW, it’s apparently now on sale per the information above.
