Pocket is one of the oldest, and one of the most popular services that lets you save web content for reading later. And now Pocket is a Mozilla-owned company.
The organization responsible for making the open source Firefox web browser has acquired the company behind Pocket.
In 2015 Firefox added Pocket integration to Firefox for desktop users, allowing you to save content to Pocket without installing an extensions.
Pocket will continue to operates as a standalone organization, but now it will be a subsidiary of Mozilla. According to founder Nate Weiner, “our team isn’t changing and our existing roadmap has been reinforced and is clearer than ever,” which suggests that Pocket will continue to offer products for non-Mozilla platforms including the Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Opera web browsers, as well as mobile apps for Android and iOS.
One likely change? Pocket will be added to the Mozilla open source project.
