Apple stopped selling its own displays last year, and instead the company now sells a set of high-end 4K and 5K monitors from LG.
But there’s one small problem: as 9to5Mac reported this week, the LG 27″ UltraFine 5K display doesn’t work properly when placed closed to a WiFi router.
No, really. If you place it within 2 meters (about 6.6 feet) of a router, the screen can flicker or go black. The good news is that LG is aware of the issue and working on a fix.
Update: LG says the problem has been resolved, and that the UltraFine 5K display should begin shipping again on March 8th.
LG says all units “manufactured after February 2017 will be fitted with enhanced shielding” in order to minimize interference.
And if you’ve already purchased one of the monitors? LG says “Customers continuing to experience issues with their UltraFine displays are advised to contact their nearest LG customer center for prompt service.”
It’s good to know a fix is coming. But it’s a bit disappointing that the issue wasn’t caught before LG started shipping the expensive displays (the 5K monitor has a list price of $1299 and is currently on sale for $974 at the Apple Store).
