Samsung may be betting that people are still willing to pay premium prices for high-end Android tablets, but Lenovo seems to be focusing on the budget and mid-range spaces with the four new Android tablets it’s launching at MWC.

The Lenovo Tab 4 and Tab 4 Plus tablets both come in 8 and 10 inch models, and the starting price for the cheapest is just $109.

What you get for that price is an 8 inch Lenovo Tab 4 tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, Android Nougat software, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, stereo speakers, a 5MP rear camera, and a 2MP front camera.

The $149 Lenovo Tab 4 10 tablet has the same specs, but a bigger screen and battery and a $149 price tag. Both sizes feature micro USB ports, 3.5mm headphone jacks, and 802.11n WiFi.

Move up to a Plus model and you get a faster CPU, more memory, and a higher resolution display, among other things.

The $199 Lenovo Tab Plus 8 features a 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a Snapdragon 625 chip, 802.11ac WiFi, a USB 2.0 Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot, and 8MP rear and 5MP front cameras.

Plus models also have a fingerprint sensor.

Lenovo offers models with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage of 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The $249 Lenovo Tab Plus 10 has the same specs as the smaller 8 inch model.

The company also offers optional accessories packs, including the Kid’s Pack with a bumper case, stickers, and software including parental controls and safety tools. An optional Productivity Pack includes a Bluetooth keyboard and protective sleeve and stand.

Lenovo plans to begin selling the Tab 4 series Android tablets in May.

  1. It’s nice to finally see stuff launching with Android 7. Though I know the next version of Android will of course be announced at I/O in May.
I’d be totally into something along the specs of the Plus in the article but what I really want is timely updates. I’m hoping Nvidia launches a newer tablet. I’d be all over that. Even as is I’m considering their two year old tablet over new models.

  2. I just want a decent cheap tablet with custom ROM support. 32 gb storage minimum. It doesn’t need to be a powerhouse, it just needs to be able to watch movies in bed.

    1. Amen. I would think that a snapdragon 650 (dual a72, quad a53) would be a good architecture to standardize on. Tablets are not bleeding edge, they should be expected to last 4+ years.

      1. Exactly! I have a small laptop, but it runs a 35 W processor and I hate using it in bed. I’d like something snappy for web browsing, won’t run hot for videos and maybe a bit of emulation.

  3. Very interesting…might be time to replace the Nexus 7 2012 I use as my aviation GPS.

  4. I bought the ASUS z300m at 10.1 for $149 (it’s regular price). Also a budget tablet with front-firing (great speakers, loud) at $149. Very happy with the purchase and the security updates. I never look at expensive tablets. Just don’t see the benefits, especially for running a non-multitasking OS. I’d pay a little more for RemixOS and strong support for BT mice. The ASUS suffers from BT mouse issues (maybe it’s my cheap mouse) but performs well with a wireless USB mouse.

On paper, these Lenovo tablets look impressive, especially with the additional RAM and storage options.

  5. these prices are pretty decent. might be time to retire some of my HP Touchpads!
