Amazon Prime subscribers in the US get access to thousands of TV shows and movies with their $99 membership fee. But since late 2015 Amazon has also allowed you to add additional content from HBO, Showtime, Starz, and other networks through a service called Amazon Channels.

Now the company has launched the first channel with its own name in it: Anime Strike.

It’s an anime-streaming channel with a selection of animated Japanese TV shows and movies including current shows and classic titles.

Anime Strike is an ad-free service, and new episodes of currently running shows will be added the same day they broadcast in Japan.

At $5 per month, Anime Strike is cheaper than competitors CrunchyRoll Premium  ($7 per month) or Funimation Streaming ($6 per month). But that’s only true if you’re already paying for an Amazon Prime membership.

It’s worth noting that Funimation and CrunchyRoll both offer free, ad-supported options, while Amazon does not.

According to Variety, Anime Strike is just the first Amazon-branded channel available Prime subscribers. The company plans to roll out additional channels starting this year.

  1. that most anime stuffs r here, but you have to search for them which can be a chore since not all of them are uploaded by the same user and some of them arent groupe…

  2. Amazon Anime Strike is NOT cheaper than any of them. Amazon’s Anime Strike requires a Prime Membership that is $11/month or $99/year. So, Anime Strike is $16/month or $159/year; compared to Cruchyroll $7/month or $60/year and Funimation $6/month or $60/year. Plus now there is Vrv.co which for $10/month gives you access to all of Crunchyroll’s and most of Funimation’s content as well as the content of 6 other sites. Amazon’s Anime Strike is in no way worth the cost.

  5. Cool. I may get in on this since I already have Prime. Probably wait until they have more shows though.

    I used to have one of those all access memberships at CrunchyRoll for 5+ years and was grandfathered on a cheap Black Friday yearly deal. Too bad I forgot to update my expired credit card info. When CR’s auto-pay failed, they took away my discounted membership even though I updated my card info as soon as I got the failed payment notification.

  7. big company trying to screw a smaller successful company who did the hard work for real fans. (Crunchy Roll). I hope Amazon fails with it.

  8. The price is right but they will have to radically improve their selection before I’ll subscribe.

  9. Very limited selection, so hopefully they bring in more shows. I’m hoping they don’t cut exclusive deals, but knowing Amazon they definitely will.
