Zotac launches mini gaming PC with AMD Polaris graphics

11/02/2016 at 12:45 PM by Brad Linder Leave a Comment

Zotac’s latest compact gaming desktop is the company’s first to feature an AMD Radeon RX480 Polaris graphics card.

The Zotac Magnus ERX480 is a desktop PC that measures about 8.3″ x 8″ x 2.5″ and which comes with an Intel Core i5-6400T quad-core Skylake processor.

Zotac offers barebones, Plus, and Windows 10 models of the computer.

All three models include AMD’s Polaris-based graphics card with support for 4K/60Hz video. You can connect up to four displays, thanks to two DisplayPort 1.3 and two HDMI 2.0 ports.

The barebones version of the Magnus ERX480 includes the CPU, graphics card, and power supply, but you can bring your own memory, storage, and operating system.

The system has an M.2 SATA SSD slot, a 2.5 inch drive bay and support for up to 32GB of DDR4-2133 memory (with two SODIMM slots).

Other features include 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, a USB 3.1 Type-A port, two USB 3.0 ports, and two USB 2.0 ports.

The Plus model has the same basic specs, but comes with 8GB of RAM, a 120GB M.2 SSD and a 1TB hard drive. You’ll still need to supply the operating system on this model.

The Windows 10 model is basically the same as the Plus version, but it comes with Windows 10 pre-installed.

I wonder how this Zotac ERX480…. compares to the original Alienware Alpha, Gbyte Brix 950, and the new Alienware Alpha R2.

Any input Brad?

I like the option of a bare bones computer so I can use the operating system of my choice. Even though one can not install ReactOS with an USB drive or an USB optical drive or others I have been looking forward to use.
