ZTE plans to build a phone featuring eye-tracking cameras and a self-adhesive back. The idea is to enable hands-free operation of the phone by letting you scroll through content just by looking at the screen, for example.

But the idea didn’t come from ZTE. For the past month and a half, the company has been soliciting ideas from the community through its Project CSX program, and the self-adhesive, eye-tracking camera was chosen as the winner.

Other finalists including a design for a set of intelligent smartphone covers, a next-gen phone with high-end specs and stock Android software (without ZTE’s typical skin), a virtual reality diving mask that lets you experience remote locations while you’re actually in a swimming pool, and a “powerglove” with mechanical motors that pairs with a smartphone app to help guide your fingers during physical therapy or when learning new activities, like playing the piano.

ZTE says the final votes had the eye-tracking phone win by a pretty wide margin:

The company says it may turn to the community again in the future for help coming up with a name for the new phone, color options, or other details.

The phone is still under development, but the plan is to launch it in 2017.
