After launching in Europe in September, the ZTE Axon 7 mini goes up for pre-order in the United States today.

As the name suggests, the phone looks just like a smaller version of the 5.5 inch ZTE Axon 7. But this 5.2 inch phone has a less powerful processor, less memory, and a lower resolution display.

It also has a lower price tag, though. The ZTE Axon 7 mini sells for $300.

The phone features a 5.2 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with Adreno 405 graphics, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.

It has a 2,705 mAh battery and support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. The Axon 7 mini also has a USB Type-C port.

The smartphone has a 16MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, and support for 4G LTE and GSM networks.

ZTE’s smaller phone measures about 5.8″ x 2.8″ x 0.3″ and weighs 5.4 ounces.

By comparison, the 5.5 inch Axon 7 is a $400 smartphone that measures 6″ x 2.9″ x 0.3″. That model has a 2560 x 1440 pixel display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, as well as a 3,250 mAh battery and Quick Charge 3.0 support. It also has higher-quality cameras.

All told, you get a lot more phone if you spend the extra $100 on the Axon 7. I just wish it was possible to get those specs in a 5.2 inch package.
