Following the recent announcement of a voluntary recall for the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has partnered with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue a recall for a million phones sold in the US.

The recall comes after dozens of reports of batteries on Galaxy Note 7 phones catching fire. The announcements also comes on the heels of a report suggesting that most Note 7 owners seem to have continued using their devices despite widespread news reports regarding the problems and the voluntary recall.

Samsung notes that affected devices include Galaxy Note 7 phones sold before September 15th, 2016. If you’re not sure if your phone is affected, you can enter the IMEI or serial number at samsung.com/us/note7recall to find out.

Customers can exchange the phones for a new model with a non-exploding battery, exchange the phone for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone (and get a refund for the price difference), or just request a refund.

Folks who opt for an exchange rather than a refund will get a $25 in the form of a gift card or credit.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, customers should contact their wireless carriers for details (if they bought a phone from a carrier) or contact Samsung at 1-844-365-6197 or through Samsung.com.
