I recently reviewed the Asus ZenBook UX305UA laptop with a Core i5 Skylake processor and for the most part I found it to be a pretty good laptop for a pretty good price.

But it looks like Asus has a new model on the way which will have a few features the ZenBook UX305 series lacks.

The upcoming Asus Zenbook UX306UA has a backlit keyboard and a USB Type-C port.

Update: The Asus Store is showing a $999 price tag for a model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Measuring 0.55 inches thick and weighing 2.6 pounds, the new model is also a little thinner and lighter than the model I reviewed.

According to the Asus website, the ZenBook UX306UA will be available with Core i5 or Core i7 Skylake-U processor options, 256GB or 512GB of storage, and up to 16GB of RAM.

The notebook has a 13.3 inch IPS anti-glare display, and Asus will offer 1920 x 1080 and 3200 x 1800 pixel display options.

The ZenBook UX306UA has stereo 2 watt speakers, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, an SD card reader, micro HDMI port, a headset jack, a full-sized USB 3.0 port, and a USB 3.0 Type-C port. The laptop is powered by a 57 Whr battery.

It looks like the USB-C port is for connecting peripherals, not for charging the laptop, since there’s a separate port for a power adapter.

Sadly, one thing that doesn’t seem to have changed is the placement of the power button: it’s still in the top right row of the keyboard, where you’d find the Del or Backspace key on most laptops.
