Lenovo-owned Motorola may be going through a bit of restructuring, but Lenovo has made it clear that we’ll continue to see smartphones with Motorola DNA in the future… even if they wear names like “Moto by Lenovo.”
And it looks like one of those new phones might be a next-gen Moto X.
Indian import/export database Zauba has listings for a few units of an unannounced phone called the Motorola Mot X3. The description only provides a few details about the device: it has a 5 inch touchscreen display, a single SIM card, and support for GSM cellular networks.
Only about 8 phones were shipped to India from the United States, suggesting that these are demo units for testing purposes.
The X3 name is a bit weird though: the first Moto X came out in 2013 and it was followed by a 2nd-gen model that was still just called the Moto X in 2014. Last year Motorola launched its 3rd-generation phones with names like the Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Style, and Moto X Play.
So you’d think the 4th-gen model would just be called “Moto X,” or maybe “Moto X4.”
Anyway, it certainly looks like Lenovo/Motorola are continuing to use the Moto name for now. But the name could always change by the time this phone officially launches.
