Many high-end smartphones offer up to 64GB of storage. A few are available with 128GB. And a handful go even further than that.
But Samsung says it’s now mass producing a 256GB embedded memory chip that will provide plenty of speedy storage for next-gen mobile devices.
The new 256GB memory is based on the Universal Flash Storage 2.0 standard, and Samsung says it offers speeds almost twice as fast as a SATA SSD, with data read speeds up to 805MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 260MB/s.
And you thought that new SanDisk microSD card was fast.
Among other things, Samsung says that means the internal storage of premium smartphones will finally be fast enough to handle the super-fast data transfers you get on devices with USB 3.0 ports… allowing you to transfer a 5GB video file in 12 seconds, for example.
