So you want a tiny desktop computer that supports a Linux-based operating system and don’t want to pay for a Windows license you won’t use… but you also don’t want a barebones computer. You want something that comes with memory, storage, and maybe even a free operating system?

Enter the ChimpBox. It’s a desktop computer with a mini-ITX motherboard, and AMD processor, and a fanless case that measures 8.3″ x 7.6″ x 2.5″.

The ChimpBox sells for $300 and up and it comes pre-loaded with PCLinuxOS software, although it should support other operating systems.

The ChimpBox features an AMD A4-500 quad-core processor with Radeon HD 8330 graphics and supports up to 16GB of RAM, up to two 2.5 inch hard drives or solid state drives, and all models features Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, and PS/2 mouse and keyboard connectors as well as two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports.

Looking for something a little different? The folks behind the Linux Mint operating system have been partnering with Israeli PC maker Compulab to offer a line of  “Mintbox” mini PCs for a few years. The latest model is about the same price as the entry-level ChimpBox, but has a smaller case and a lower-power processor.
