After months of buildup, Oculus is finally taking pre-orders for its virtual reality headset. The Oculus Rift should begin shipping in March, and you can order one today for $599.

That makes this virtual reality device more expensive than some PCs. But this will be one of the first high-end VR accessories to hit the market as a consumer device. The screen has a high refresh rate, wide field of view, and the system should be able to connect to a gaming PC with a decent graphics card with low latency.

Oculus recommends a computer with an NVIDIA GTX 970m AMD R9 290 or better graphics card, at least an Intel Core i5-4590 processor, and at least 8GB of RAM. you’ll also need a system with HDMI 1.3 output, three USB 3.0 ports, and a USB 2.0 port and Windows 7 or later.

If you pre-order the Oculus Rift you’ll also get a few games including EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale.

Think the price seems too high? As Kotaku reports, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey tried to explain things in a reddit AMA.
