Plenty of PC makers have launched smartwatches in the past year or two, but HP has been taking a slightly different approach than most. Rather than design everything in house, the company has been working with fashion designed to launch new wearables that combine fashion with smartwatch features.
The MB Chronowing is a collaboration between HP and designer Michael Bastian. And the Bold Motion was designed in partnership with Swiss watch maker Movado.
HP’s latest watch is an Isaac Mizrahi model with a Swarovski crystal frame.
The Isaac Mizrahi Smartwatch is available in gold or silver colors and sells for $250. You can also buy a series of colored watch bands for $40 each.
The watch doesn’t run third-party apps like an Apple Watch, Samsung Gear, or Android Wear device. But it supports Bluetooth connections with a smartphone running iOS 8 or later or Android 4.4 or later and display notifications on your wrist.
It does that thanks to a transparent OLED display that’s overlaid on top of the analog watch face. When there are no notifications, you can use the watch like a normal time-telling device. When notifications are available you can see messages about incoming calls, text messages, or calendar appointments.
The Isaac Mizrahi Smartwatch should get up to 5 days of battery life when using its smart features, or much longer battery life if you just use it as a watch. You charge the battery through a USB port.
It has a stainless steel case, a 42nm watch face, and the watch is water resistant up to 3 atmospheres (it should be fine in the rain, but swimming isn’t recommended).
