TP-Link is a company that produces wireless routers and other networking products and PC accessories, but in early 2016 the company plans to launch something different: a smartphone.

TP-Link has announced plans to enter the mobile space by launching the Neffos line of smartphones in February.

There aren’t many details about the upcoming phone, but TP-Link’s president says the goal is to offer a mix of user-friendly features and fashionable design… you know, unlike all the other smartphones on the market.

The company recently partnered with Google to offer the first OnHub WiFi router. Google’s OnHub platform is designed to make it easier to setup and manage a home network, and also to make routers look fashionable enough that you don’t want to hide them behind or below other furniture (which can block their signals and decrease their effectiveness).

Does that mean TP-Link’s phones will run Android software and draw design cues from the TP-Link OnHub router? I have no idea… but since the vast majority of smartphones do run Android, I’d be surprised if the Neffos smartphone family shipped with any other operating system.
