Sign up for an Amazon Prime membership and in addition to getting free 2-day shipping on millions of items, you get access to Prime Video, a service that lets you stream thousands of movies and TV shows over the internet using a phone, tablet, computer, or TV box like the Amazon Fire TV.

Prime Video may not be as popular as Netflix, but there’s some pretty good content available. Amazon’s original TV series Transparent won a bunch of Emmys this year, and recently I’ve been using Prime Video to re-watch the Star Trek.

Not satisfied with the available content though? Now you can get more: Amazon is partnering with other streaming services to integrate their catalogs with its own. Pay an extra monthly fee and you can stream movies and TV shows from Starz, Showtime, and more.

Sure, you could also just pay for a standalone Showtime Anytime subscription and use the company’s own apps. But if you sign up for Showtime through Amazon, movies and TV shows from the network will show up alongside you other Amazon content, making it easier to search, browse, and maintain a watch list. Amazon also handles all the billing, and some services are actually cheaper if you sign up through Amazon than if you pay for a standalone service.

Right now Showtime and Starz are the big names, but there are a bunch of other options, including:

  • Acorn TV
  • Comedy Central Stand-Up Plus
  • DramaDever
  • Lifetime Movie Club
  • Qello Concerts
  • Sundance Now Doc Club
  • Smithsonian Earth

Prices for these subscription add-ons range from about $3 per month to $9 per month on top of your $99 Amazon Prime membership fee. But it looks like all of the services offer free trials if you want to check them out before spending any extra money… or if you want to just binge watch one particular show.

  1. I’m currently trying out the free 7 day trial of Showtime & Starz on Amazon Prime. But I’ve noticed that-on the Showtime end of things, not all the content from Showtime’s online streaming channel -is available. Since I have still Showtime’s own stand alone channel on my Roku(I’m paid up for this month) I’ve been in the position to compare the content for the last two days. For example, the great documentary on the late college basketball coach Dean Smith-is no where to be seen on Amazon’s Showtime add-on. In phone conversations with Amazon customer agents & reading online information-nowhere does it state that for the $2 price drop would we not have ALL of the streaming available on Showtime’s streaming channel. I like the notion of paying for a couple of streaming packages at the same time & under one umbrella, but not stating that-as of this 3rd day now- not all the movies, boxing matches, documentaries, etc…would be included on Amazon’s add-on is wrong.

  2. This is a fairly big piece of news. Cable companies are undoubtedly taking notice. This will suck some subscription revenue from cable customers who are not cord cutters, particularly those without DVRs.

  3. Another benefit of this is that it makes some of these streaming services available on other devices. I don’t have access to the Showtime App on my Tivo, but there is the Amazon Prime Video app — one less need to change the HDMI input on my TV.

    1. Finally, after several years, Tivo decides to support
Amazon Prime Video. One reason wy I stopped watching
Tivo despite having lifetime product service.

    2. Yeah, I was thinking about how my PS4 in particular doesn’t have Showtime & Starz, but does have Amazon. (At least, don’t think its available).
