We can probably expect to see a lot of smart home gadgets at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. But LG is giving us a sneak peek at its entry: the SmartThinQ Hub is a cylinder with a 3.5 inch display on top and speaker in the base.

It can display notifications on the screen, announce them out loud via the speakers, or play music. But this isn’t just an Amazon Echo clone with a screen instead of voice controls.

The LG SmartThinQ Hub also serves as a central device for accessing all of your smart home products.

The Hub can connect to smart appliances like refrigerators, ovens, or air conditioners. And it can display notifications on its screen or make announcements through its speakers to provide updates from your smart gadgets or reminders from you calendar.

It has a metallic case that comes in black or gold colors and it supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee to connect to non-smart devices that are attached to SmartThinQ sensors.

You can also use it to stream music. It supports iHeartRadio, or you can pair with a tablet or smartphone to use the SmartThinQ Hub as a Bluetooth speaker.

To use it as a smart home hub you’ll need to have products that use the AllJoyn Alliance framework. That includes other members of the LG SmarThinQ lineup as well as the Lowe’s Iris platform.
