Mozilla has released Firefox 43 for Windows, Linux, OS X, and Android. And while there are some significant updates for each of those versions, there’s one big change for Windows users: you can now install a 64-bit version of Firefox.
Up until recently Firefox 64-bit software was only available for Linux and OS X.
The desktop version of Firefox also gives you a new “strict” option in Tracking Protection when you use Private Browsing mode. Not only will the browser block scripts that track your data for advertising, analytics, or social media purposes, but if you opt for strict protection, you’ll block trackers used for embedded videos, photos, and other content (although you may also not be able to see videos, photos, or other content from some sources when this is enabled).
Firefox 43 for Android also includes a bunch of new features, including:
- A tab audio indicator that lets you know which browser tab is making noise in the background
- Updated toolbar menu to better match Android’s updated design language
- Split-pane view for the history panel when using tablets in landscape mode
- Option to mark the read or unread status of items in the reading list
- Accessibility improvements
