Xiaomi may be one of the fastest-growing smartphone companies in China, but the company doesn’t yet sell its phones in the US. But maybe that’s going to change soon.

Last month the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro smartphone showed up at the FCC website, and now it’s been joined by Xiaomi Mi 4. While some products submitted to the US wireless regulatory agency never reach store shelves, this is a step that all wireless products do need to take before they can be sold in the US. So it’s certainly looking possible that Xiaomi plans to enter the US market soon.

xiaomi mi 4

The Xiaomi Mi 4 is a phone with a 5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of storage. It has a 13Mp rear camera, and 8MP front camera, and a 3,080 mAh battery.

Like all Xiaomi phones, it runs a custom version of Google Android called MIUI.

Xiaomi released the Mi 4 in China in mid-2014. The company is expected to launch new phones next week, which might make the Mi 4 seem a bit dated. But if Xiaomi is planning to begin offering its phones in the US, maybe we’ll see newer models as well as older phones.

Right now the only Xiaomi products sold in the States are accessories including headphones, power banks, and fitness trackers.

  1. A good value: performance / price.
Personally, I am only interested in armv8 SOCs and phones with promised software updates (Nexus and Moto).

  2. These things would be major Samsung etc. killers if they would just WAKE UP and get rid of the horrible MiUI overlay! Until then, don’t even touch these devices…

    1. They’ve been testing Windows 10 running on the Mi4, and there’s a rumor that they’ll make it available to download for everyone shortly. Being able to download and change OS’s on a phone AFTER you’ve bought it is a very interesting prospect.

      1. They’ll still ruin it by slathering the OS with the terrible MiUI overlay crap, even if it’s Windows. That’s the point.

        1. I’ve never heard of that on a Windows Mobile device. I doubt that it will be the case. They may have some custom apps or a unique service or two, but otherwise it will be plain Windows 10.

  3. Hope they enter with a product that can be used on any wireless network a la a Nexus 5X and Moto X Pure.
