The ECS Liva X is a small, fanless, low-power desktop computer that measures about 5.3″ x 3.3″ x 1.6″ and which is compatible with Windows or Linux (although it takes a little work to install the latter).

The computer has an Intel Celeron N2807 Bay Trail processor, HDMI and VGA ports, WiFi and Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port. It may not be the most powerful computer on the market, but it’s an inexpensive compact, energy-efficient system that’s a lot more versatile than the recently announced Asus Chromebit… and the Liva X is cheaper too.

While the ECS Liva X originally sold for over $200, right now you can pick one up for just $70 after rebate.

  1. These boxes with eMMC don’t support Windows, unless you count Windows 8.x or Windows 10 as “Windows” which few people do. And even then with “Windows as a dis-service” you get huge updates pushed at you that these small storage devices often can’t cope with. While you could stick a real drive on there so you can install certain non-UEFI OSs like Windows 7 but at that point you may as well buy something else. So pretty much all of these “compute stick SOC” platforms fail right out of the gate. These are more something you’d slap KludgeBag Linux onto and then shove into the junk drawer two days later from boredom.

    1. I’m having no trouble running Windows 10 on a 32gb eMMC. I guess it’s not for everyone though.

  2. What about the huge sales on the Nvidia Shield TV at the moment.

Amazon have the Shield TV + Bonus free remote and free shipping for $175 (instead of $250)
