Chinese tablet maker Chuwi has released a new 10 inch tablet with an Intel Atom Z3736F Bay Trail processor. It runs Windows 10 and Android software and features 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

But tablets with those features are a dime a dozen in China. Here’s what makes the Chuwi eBook stand out: it has an active digitizer and comes with a digital pen. Chuwi says the tablet can accept 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, allowing you to write or draw on the screen.

The Chuwi eBook is available from Geekbuying for $170. You can also pick one up from AliExpress, but at the moment most sellers seem to be charging $200 or more for the tablet.

The tablet has a 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive touchscreen IPS display and comes with a HanWang ES4 pen. I don’t really have many details abotu the pen, but Chuwi says it weighs 2.9 grams and doesn’t require a battery.

The Chuwi eBook has HDMI and micro USB ports, a microSD card slot, headset jack, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0. It has stereo speaker,s an 8,000 mAh battery, and 5MP rear and 2MP front cameras.

It ships with Android 4.4 KitKat and Windows 8.1 software.

  1. Anyone knows if it’s Single or Dual channel RAM? Other than that, perfect tablet for the price.

  2. Just saw this on pre-order at geekbuying, looks nice. Do you guys know if it’s possible to install windows 10 on it?

  3. DO NOT BUY FROM GEEKBUYING! They will send you a tablet with a hacked version of windows and when you complain, they will say you can upgrade it on your own. Very shady company. Its not hard to find and locate a lot of complaints about them. They may be a bit cheaper but you pay a lot more in the end! A lot more!

  4. Wonder how good that active digitizer is. Consider that
Synaptics botched its first attempt with the Dell Venue 8
and 10 Pro (subsequent fixes couldn’t make things right).

The HanWang brand name of the digitizer on the Chuwi
is one I’ve never head of (unless they pirated the technology
from Wacom or N-Trig) and this is the first time I’ve seen it
implemented. Dell realized it’s disastrous choice, and the
latest Dell devices use Wacom instead.

    1. since that requires no battery, its probably the same thing thats in the Samsung Note series.

  5. That’s pretty good. A dual-boot Windows/Android tablet with a digitizer and pen for around $200? Dang, I’m sold.

  6. I don’t care if it’s good, they swiped a Tron pic for the promo shots so I’m sold.

  7. Sigh. At least it’s 16/10. Still too much of a rarity with Chinese tabs. Stick some proper chips and resolution in there and we can talk.

  8. Wow, Intel must have sent a plane over china and just dumped a fuckload of these shitty Z3736/Z3735 chips all over the chinese.

    1. These chips are actually quite good, they made possible devices like the acer aspire switch which is a perfect travel computer…not to sure what else out there can run windows, Android as well as Chrome OS so unless you can make a 22Nm finfet chip maybe you should revise your opinion!

      1. I ran 3 heads (2 40″ panels and the built in one) on a Toshiba Encore (the first one, not the piece of shit they replaced it with). It has the Z3740 DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY and I used it as my PRIMARY desktop computer for 3 months. When I bought the winbook 801 because it has USB 3.0, I noticed a MASSIVE difference between the shitty SINGLE CHANNEL MEMORY Z3735 and my old Encore. UN-FUCKING-USUABLE!

I ended up giving the winbook 801 to a little neighbor girl, because my principals refused to allow me to take money for it.

And as far as the acer aspire switch, at least they give you options to buy it with a higher end processor, so if you bought the Z3735 version, you deserve what you got.

And Acer should get props for releasing the first 8″ tablet with an EPIC Z8700 chip, even though it only runs android… Fingers crossed that they will release a Windows version and not charge extra, since windows is FREE from M$ for 8″ tablets.

    2. Not sure why you are calling those chips shitty. They get the job down quite nicely, You don’t expect to have a $200 tablet with 2560×1600 resolution, 8GB of ram, 512GB of storage, i7 4770K cpu, 20 hour battery at only 7mm thinness do you?

      1. I expect them to have at least a Z3740, the Z3735 is garbage, its single channel memory and very low bandwidth and they cost a few dollars less, which is why all these cheap ass companies use it.
