Over the past year or two, a number of PC makers have released low-cost laptops with Intel Bay Trail processors running Windows or Google Chrome software. They tend to have list prices of around $200, but every now and again these little laptops go on sale, and right now you can pick up an Acer Aspire E11 for $165 or an HP Stream 11 for $179.

Sure, new models with Intel’s slightly more powerful Braswell processors are probably on the way. But you’ll probably have to pay full price for those models.

  1. I am still waiting to hear what happened to the Acer Switch 11 V. The Europeans can buy it. Why not here in the US?

  2. Picked up a refurb Stream 11 off Groupon a few weeks ago. Its a pain upgrading it to Windows 10 since it lacks enough internal storage (an external usb hard drive makes it easy however). Once upgraded and unbloated, its surprisingly zippy. The trackpad and display are not as good as my C201 Chromebook (which is a great device), but overall the Stream 11 is a nice little unit (volume is great, build quality outside of trackpad is very good).

      1. You will have to upgrade from a flash drive. The system will not have enough space to download and unpack all of the files, not to mention it will create a 4GB backup of the old Windows. You can reclaim this by using Disk Cleanup and clicking on Clean up system file.

        1. I tried that on my Asus netbook, but it kept quitting at about the 60% mark.
