People sometimes use the word “phablet” to describe smartphones with nearly tablet-sized displays. But there are a handful of models that take the “nearly” out of the equation. Asus has the 7 inch Fonepad, and now BLU has the Studio 7.0 LTE.

Like the Fonepad, the BLU Studio 7.0 LTE is basically a smartphone with a tablet-sized screen. Or maybe it’s a small tablet with the ability to make phone calls.

Either way, it’s available right now for under $200.

The device features the specs of an entry-level or mid-range phone, including a 1280 x 720 pixel IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.

There’s a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of removable storage, an 8MP camera on the back and a 2MP front-facing camera.

While the 3,700 mAh battery might seem large by smartphone standards, it’s not exactly enormous for a device with a 7 inch screen.

The BLU Studio 7.0 LTE ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop software and has dual SIM card slots with support for 4G LTE.

  1. Why are people still making 1Gb RAM devices… 2 GB is the sensible minimum for 2015 and it only adds 10 USD to the BOM at max… but makes a he’ll a lot of difference … 5% more cost for a 50% increase in usability and responsiveness…

  2. Huawei Media Pad 1 has dropped in price and is way better made with metal case, smaller bezels and 7″ FHD IPS display.

    1. The Blu has dual SIM, which is better suited for
global use. The Huawei appears to be single SIM.
Besides, Huawei is considered a suspect vendor
by many due to its reputed ties to the mainland
Chinese army, which is why Huawei has been blocked
from acquiring 3Com, selling to the US government, or
selling to Sprint. Additionally, Huawei got caught
      copying Cisco router code.

  3. It’s an interesting proposition, but personally, I’d rather spend an extra $80 and get a Lenovo Zuk Z1 or Vibe P1. Smaller phablet size (5.5″), but muuuch better specs.

  4. so basically it is an overpriced LG G Pad 7.0… I am personally waiting for a 7″ tablet with a 90% or higher screen to body ratio. This is 13mm smaller width wise than the LG G Pad

      1. you can probably make calls on the LG with the right rom on CM12.1 it comes with a phone app part of me wants to try a phone sim to see if it will work…

        1. ahh, I didn’t notice there was an LTE version of the LG G pad. You’re right, for the LTE version, it should be possible for it to make calls; at least through google voice, if not directly through the cellular network.
