The BlackBerry Priv smartphone is expected to go up for pre-order this week and ship in November. So it’s not surprising that the Android-powered smartphone with a slide-out keyboard just showed up at the FCC website.
There seem to be a few different versions of the phone, but they all have model numbers starting with STV100. One good indication that this is the BlackBerry Priv? The documents designed to show the label are filled with images showing how to pull up the Android “About phone” screen.
The documents confirm that the phone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 processor, 802.11ac WiFi, and Bluetooth.
Other features are expected to include a 5.4 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 3,410 mAh battery, an 18MP rear camera, and a microSD card slot that can handle up to 2TB of removable storage. The FCC documents don’t mention any of those specs, but the pre-order page that BlackBerry accidentally posted early makes it pretty clear that the phone will have those features.
It also has a QWERTY thumb keyboard that slides out from behind the screen and Android 5.1 Lollipop software with BlackBerry security and communication apps and features.
While the phone is expected to sell for $750 if you buy an unlocked model, it’s possible that wireless carriers could offer subsidized models at lower prices for customers that sign up for a contract.
$750 smackers. No wonder BB is dying. Endless Greed.
Agreed, and no guarantee of software updates. If they had explicitly broken it down as say 550 for the phone and 200 for guaranteed software updates for a few years I’d be way more accepting.
I would buy this in a heartbeat if there was an e-ink screen on the back
Okay so this phone + continuum + x86 processor with full windows + e-ink screen on the back … I would pay 1,000USD for that.
I’m so ready to buy this phone.
