Chinese startup Xiaomi has made a name for itself by delivering high quality smartphones at mid-to-low range prices, and the company’s latest keeps up the trend: the Xiaomi Mi 4c is a $200 smartphone with specs that rival competing phones that sell for twice as much.

The phone features a 5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor, a 13MP rear camera, a USB Type-C port, and a 3,080 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support

They also have a new feature called “Edge Tap.”

Here’s how that works: tap the edge of the phone once to quickly take a selfie with the 5MP front-facing camera. Or you can double-tap the of the phone to go back without touching the back button.

You can also double-tap the screen to wake the device, but that’s hardly a feature that’s unique to the Xiaomi Mi 4c.

Xiaomi charges about $205 for a model with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, and $235 for a model with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Both models support 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G LTE networks (in China). And both feature Sony IMX 258 rear cameras and infrared ports for controlling your TV or other appliances.

At launch the Xiaomi Mi 4c will only be available in China. But the company has started selling some phones in other countries in recent years, so it’s possible the Mi 4c could make it to other markets eventually.

Xiaomi also introduced a new Bluetooth speaker with an aluminum case, an 8-hour battery, and support for USB and microSD cards that sells for about $30 in China.

  1. Very uique phone- even by Chinese standards.

Most China phones are 5.5″ and use MTK chips. You ocasionally see a Snapdragon 615 on midrange offerings… or an 810 on their more expensive phones. But to see a 5″ with a 808 and a good price point- that is fairly unique right now.

The main issue is whether it will have the right bands t work in the US. No wy it will work on 4G, but possible 3G. Also no MicroSD slot, although the 32GB model s not a bad choice.

  2. Yeah, by the time we get it here in the US it will be time for the next model of all phones that sell in the US….lol Why can’t be test tube babies in the US for new phones like we are for the pharma companies? We are game!…wait..
