Amazon probably has at least three new Fire tablets on the way, including a model that will likely have a 6 or 7 inch display and a $50ish price tag.
Now it looks like one of Amazon’s new tablets will also have a larger display: Evan Blass has posted a picture of Amazon’s upcoming 10 inch tablet, and possible specs for the tablet recently showed up at the GFXBench website.
According to GFXBench, the tablet will have a 10 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a MediaTek MT8135 quad-core processor (with two ARM Cortex-A15 and two ARM Cortex-A7 cores), PowerVR G6200 graphics, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, as well as front and rear cameras.
It will likely ship with Fire OS 5, which is Amazon’s custom version of Google Android 5.1. If the picture posted by Blass is accurate, it looks like the next version of Fire OS for tablets could have a user experience that’s a bit closer to stock Android than the last few versions of Amazon’s tablet-and-phone operating system, with a search bar, Android-style buttons, and a less skeuomorphic app launcher.
If those specs are accurate, it’s likely that the 10 inch tablet will be a low-cost device aimed at customers that want a tablet with a big screen, but who might have been turned of by the relatively high price tags for the Fire HDX 8.9 series of tablets.
A Fire tablet with a large screen could come in handy for watching videos, playing games, and reading eBooks, magazines, comics, and other content that might be hard to fit onto a 7 inch tablet screen… although you’d probably want a higher display resolution to truly take advantage of the larger screen.
Great device… if you were to read a children’s ebook. The good news is, with that kind of resolution, you’d probably be a pro at deciphering the Captcha codes.
Pixels or battery life…
don’t see anything here to be excited about, silly aspect ratio, average specs/ only 1 gb of ram, amazon’s grocery store logo on the back.
Nice to see them using a more familiar & traditional Android UI, hopefully that makes it into the final product.
Yeah, that screen resolution is pretty poor for that size screen. The price is likely to be very low. I have to believe that Amazon will also announce a 8.9″ or so with HDX.
that’s a terrible spec by todays standards!
