LG may be best known in the US for its smartphones, televisions, and appliances including refrigerators. But the South Korean consumer electronics company also knows how to make some pretty slick laptops, including the 14 inch, 2.2 pound LG Ultra PC I spotted at CES earlier this year.

Now LG is bringing its line of compact notebooks to the United States, where they’ll be sold under the LG Gram name.

lg gram

The LG Gram comes with a choice of 13.3 inch or 14 inch displays and supports up to an Intel Core i7 Broadwell processor and up to 256GB of solid state storage. Each model has 8GB of RAM and a 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display.

The laptops feature 34.61 Wh batteries for up to 7.5 hours of run time, and feature cases made of carbon magnesium and lithium magnesium. Both the 13.3 inch and 14 inch models weigh about 2.16 pounds, although clearly the model with the smaller screen has a slightly smaller footprint. Here are the measurements for each notebook:

  • 13.3 inch LG Gram: 11.9″ x 8.4″ x 0.5″
  • 14 inch LG Gram: 12.8″ x 8.9″ x 0.5″

Other features include two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, a micro USB port with an RJ45 adapter for connecting to a wired Ethernet network, 802.11ac WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

The LG Gram is available from Amazon for $900 and up.

  1. LOL so we’re starting with an outdated processor, when Skylake is so much better for Ultrabooks, due to much improved power efficiency…

I think I’ll wait for the CPU update to even consider it.

And then there’s the LG user agreement spiel, ala LG televisions:

“If you don’t agree to us recording your skype calls and browsing behaviour, and use your bandwidth to send you commercials from our ‘partners’, Smart functions will be unavailable, even though we didn’t say a word about this bs in our advertising or on the box.”

Go die in a fire, LG…?

    1. Yep, it’s either a mistake but more likely the marketing team just didn’t like the sound of kilo-gram so they shortened it to gram 🙂
