Google will start rolling out Android 6.0 updates for Nexus users in a few days, but what about non-Nexus phones and tablets? Since Google has been making developer previews of Android 6.0 Marshmallow available for months, companies including Samsung, HTC, and LG should have had plenty of time to get used to the operating system… and HTC says it will unveil its first Android 6.0 device in less than a month.
The company has scheduled a product launch for October 20th.
The event will be streamed on the web at htc.com/launch, and while there aren’t a lot of details available, HTC mentioned on Twitter that the company will “be one of the first to drop a new Marshmallow device.”
So either we can expect an Android 6.0 phone or tablet, or HTC will actually be dropping a bag of marshmallows on the floor in protest of the way we’ve come to use operating system code-names as if they actually meant anything.
We’ll likely see many more Android 6.0 announcements in the coming months as companies both unveil new phones and roll out software updates for existing products. But HTC is one of the first to make an announcement.
The company has also revealed that a dozen of its most recent phones will be getting Android 6.0 software updates before the end of 015.
