Dell is updating its Venue 8 Pro line of Windows tablets with a new model that means business.

The new Dell Venue 8 Pro 5000 Series tablet features a sturdy MIL-STD tested case, support for a Wacom digital pen, and optional 4G LTE and NFC. It also has a USB Type-C port which will let you connect a desktop docking station (due out in 2016).

Dell says the new Venue 8 Pro 5000 Series tablet will be available in North America soon for $299 and up.

The tablet will be available with either a 1280 x 800 pixel or a 1920 x 1200 pixel touchscreen display. Both models support 802.11ac WiFi, Windows 10 software, and feature Intel Atom processors.

Dell isn’t saying exactly which Atom processor powers the tablet, but if the leak we saw earlier this month is correct, the tablet will likely have an Intel Atom x5-8500 Cherry Trail processor.

Dell’s been offering Venue 8 Pro tablets since 2013, but earlier models featured Intel Atom Bay Trail processors, 802.11n WiFi, and lacked the USB C connectors found on the new models.

  1. $290 and up means $290 for a 1280×800 with 2 Gigs, and what…? $500* for the FHD with 4Gb ? Not to mention that the displays they use are sub par at best. The V8P1 looked like a yellowy piece of garbage when held next to a Chinese <$99 variety.

  2. HP’s 608 was on the top of my list but they haven’t announced an active digitizer so, unless we get a Surface Mini, I guess my old Venue will be replaced by this Venue.

    1. Right, the only reason I havent bought the 608 is because NO DOCK or PEN… There has been a dock listed on Amazon, but $200 for a port replicator, seems like $600 was high enough, they should make the dock FREE WITH PURCHASE…

  3. Very nice.. the full HD version if it has 4GB ram would be pretty much my perfect 8″ tablet assuming that USB C port can take charge in, display out, and data all simultaneously.. but it doesn’t seem it will be cheap going by what you get for the price of the entry model.

  4. 4GB RAM would be nice for the FullHD model… but they would have said it if it had that. The Wacom digitizer is a welcome option after the not-so-stellar Synaptics one, hope they exchange the old pens to the new model. I mean I had 3 of them and my r03 is almost passable, bet still not a Wacom.

    1. Ditto on Wacom vs. Synaptics. It will be interesting to see which Wacom tech they use. I’m hoping for the old Penabled one where the pen doesn’t have a battery since I’ve got a selection of pens from prior tablets.
