Amazon may be preparing to refresh its Fire tablet family with three new models… and it looks like all three may have something that none of Amazon’s previous tablets have had: microSD card slots for removable storage.

We had already spotted evidence of one upcoming tablet through an FCC listing a few weeks ago. Now two more models have shown up at the FCC.

Amazon pretty much never puts its own name on products that it submits to the FCC, instead using a series of shell companies. But I’ve confirmed with Amazon/FCC super-sleuth Dave Zatz that these three listings are probably for upcoming Amazon tablets:

There aren’t a lot of details in the FCC listings, but each model supports WiFi and Bluetooth and each has a microSD card slot, earphone jack, and a USB charging cable.

It’s worth noting that some models seem to support Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.1ac WiFi, while one model (most likely the cheapest) tops out at Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11n.

If Amazon is really working on a $50 tablet, that that could be the one.

One reply on “Amazon’s next 3 tablets might have micro SD card slots”

  1. $50 is pretty good for a cheap disposable tablet.
But that just brings more electronic waste… Companies want you to upgrade to their new product every year or two and the old one eventually becomes obsolete and in the trash.
