Alcatel OneTouch has unveiled a new line of mobile devices designed to be able to take a (light) beating. The Go Play is a smartphone with budget specs, but a waterproof and dustpoof case, while the Go Play is a water and dustproof smartwatch that can be paired with most recent Android or iOS phones.

The phone is available with 8 different color options for the rear cover, while the watch is available with wrist straps that come in a variety of colors.

The Alcatel OneTouch Go Play features a 5 inch, 720p TFT display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for up to 32MB of removable storage. There’s an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera.

The Android phone supports 4G LTE, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS and features a 2,500 mAh battery. But it’s the semi-rugged features that make the GO Play noteworthy. It can withstand a drop from about 5 feet and it can be submerged in up to a meter (about 3.3 feet) of water.

Alcatel OneTouch’s Go Watch has the same IP67 water and dust resistance as the phone, but while the phone ships with Android 5.0, the watch does not run Google’s Android Wear software. Instead, like the first Alcatel OneTouch smartwatch, it runs a custom operating system.

The good news is that means you should get from 2 to 5 days of battery life from the 225 mAh battery. The bad news is that there’s no support for third-party apps. Still, if you’re looking for basic smartphone notifications and a few extra features including step tracking and heart rate monitoring, the Go Watch can do that.

go watch_02The Go Watch has a 1.22 inch, 240 x 204 pixel display, a 180 MHz ARM Cortex-M4 processor, Bluetooth 4.0, and support for devices running Android 4.3 or later or iOS 8.2 or later.

  1. There’s a “h” missing from the title Brad. Should be smartphone.
