The Turing Phone is an unusual smartphone that emphasizes security, unique materials, and odd design choices. It’s tough to make a phone that stands out these days, but the Turing Phone certainly manages to do so.
What’s less certain is whether the phone’s worth the $610 or more that Turing Robotic Industries is asking for the Turing Phone.
If you’re interested in getting your hands on this oddball phone though, now you can reserve one from the Turing website.
The smartphone has a case made of “Liquidmorphium,” which is a durable alloy made from zirconium, copper, aluminum, nickel and silver. It has a fingerprint scanner on the side for biometric security, supports multi-factor authentication (you can use the fingerprint scanner and a password), and features a waterproof case.
The phone also has no USB port. You need a proprietary cable to charge the Turing Phone, and the only way to transfer data to and from a PC is to use a WiFi connection.
Another thing that’s missing? A headphone jack. The phone is designed to be used with Bluetooth headphones, headsets, or speakers.
The Android phone has a 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage, and a 3,000 mAh batter as well as 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras.
You can now reserve a model with 16GB of storage for $610. A 64GB model goes for $740. And a 128GB version costs $870.
what a waste of zirconium nickel and silver. for phones, aluminum or plastic is good enough. this phone is overpriced garbage, and named after some wacko who killed himself.
It looks pretty nice to me. Something different at least. Though no USB and Bluetooth everything is a turn off. Means you have to spend even more.
“and a 3,00 mAh batter” – nice feature, so the price is hot
A secure phone and it runs android? That seems like a contradiction in terms.
And might I add, that phone is ugly.
I agree. Google needs to get busy and move to an OpenBSD kernel and core libraries.
Liquidmorphium eh? Wonder if it triggers reactions in people who have skin biochemistry that doesn’t tolerate copper, nickel, etc?
