Asus and Dell are apparently planning to launch updated versions of their thin-and-light laptops, with the new models sporting Intel 6th-gen “Skylake” processors.

As Notebook Italia has noticed, Asus Zenbook UX303UB and Dell XPS 13 have started to show up at European retail websites including LaSystems and GSX Digital.

Both of these laptops appear to be updated versions of existing products offered by Asus and Dell, and I suspect there will be multiple versions of each model with specs and prices varying by region.

That said, here’s what we know about each notebook so far.

The Asus Zenbook UX303UB will be available with a 13.3 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, an Intel Core i7-6500U processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of solid state storage, and both Intel HD graphics and NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 940M graphics.

Dell’s new XPS 13, meanwhile, is expected to be available with a 13.3 inch, 3200 x 1800 pixel touchscreen display, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB solid state drive. It has a 56 Whr battery, a backlit keyboard, Thunderbolt port, a USB 3.0 port, a mini DisplayPort, and a headset jack but no Ethernet or HDMI ports.

The new Dell XPS 13 with Skylake should measure about 12.4″ x 8.1″ x 0.7″ and weigh about 3 pounds. It sounds like the new Dell XPS 13 will be a little thicker and heavier than Broadwell version I reviewed earlier this year… but it’s still pretty compact fro a 13 inch laptop.

It’s not yet clear if Dell will offer a cheaper model with a non-touch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display again, like it did with the Broadwell version.

  1. And I just bought the Broadwell i7-5500 equipped Dell XPS 13 last month.
Oh well… In technology, you’re either out of date, or will be out of date within a few months.

  2. Same here, in europe the XPS 13 (1080 i5 8GB/256GB) price raised from 1200€ to 1349€ in one week for no reasons, i hope they’ll update as soon as possible or i will buy somewhere else 🙁

  3. I’m buying this if they offer it with the 1080 matte screen and Ubuntu, ideally 8GB/256GB and with the Intel wireless card that was an option for some.

    1. This was not an option for the 1080p version with the Broadwell CPU. However, an Intel 7265 replacement was $23 from Dell and did not void any warranty.
