Another day, another set of rumors/leaks regarding Google’s next-gen Nexus smartphones. The company is expected to release two models this year: a 5.2 inch model manufactured by LG and a 5.7 inch phone made by Huawei. We’ve seen plenty of leaks regarding these phones (including some with contradictory information).

Now @onleaks has posted a new set of rumors regarding the new Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 smartphones. Take them with a grain of salt, but based on the latest trends in smartphone hardware, these new reports seem pretty plausible.

Both phones are said to have USB Type-C reversible chargers, stereo front-facing speakers, fingerprint sensors on the back of the phone, and the larger model is said to have a metal body while the smaller phone will “likely” have a metal body.

The model with a 5.2 inch screen is said to measure about 146.9mm x 72.9mm x 9.8mm, while the 5.7 inch model reportedly measures 159.4mm x 78.3mm x 8.5mm.

By comparison, the current Nexus 6 measures 159.26mm x 82.98mm x 10.06mm and the 2013 Nexus 5 measures 137.84mm x 69.17mm x 8.59mm.

While the latest rumors make no mention of processors, memory, storage, or other specs, it’s likely that one or both phones will have 2560 x 1440 pixel screens, although the smaller one could also have a 1920 x 1080 pixel display.

Depending on which rumor you believe, the phones could ship with Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 or 810 processors or the upcoming Snapdragon 820 chip (which seems unlikely now that Qualcomm says that chip won’t ship until 2016).

I also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Google and its hardware partners opting for a MediaTek processor at this point. After all, most phones that are part of the Android One program use MediaTek chips. Why not use a more powerful processor from that company for a Nexus device?

  1. Love the size of the old Nexus 5. Shame they’re probably making it taller & wider. I don’t mind if it’s deeper.

  2. I hope we find out if the larger Nexus will support Verizon if bought from the Play store before September 3rd. Cause I’m getting the Moto X Pure if not.

  3. 5 inch phones are too big unless you are a large human. Finger print reader to better be spied on by corporations who own the government? No, no thanks.

  4. Hmm… Depending on the price I might get one, I would rather have the fingerprint scanner on the front, seems much more logical but if I get front facing speakers I will be ok with it on the back.
I wonder how long until the fingerprint scanners are built into the screen
