European retail chain Medion has been offering its own brand of computers for years, and they’re often priced rather competitively with other notebooks available in Europe. Medion doesn’t typically sell its PCs in North America.

The company’s latest low-cost computer is the Medion Akoya S2218. It’s a laptop with an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor, and Windows 10 Home software.

The SS218 goes on sale in the UK Thursday for £150 (about $24o), and it’s expected to be available in other parts of Europe next week.

While this is hardly the first low-cost notebook with an Intel Atom processor and an 11.6 inch screen, it is one of the first I’ve seen with a full HD display rather than a 1366 x 768 panel.

That could make it an interesting alternative to systems like the Asus EeeBook X205TA, Acer Aspire E11, and HP Stream 11.

Like those systems, the Medion Akoya S2218 has an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It’s not exactly a high-power machine. But it’s relatively cheap for a laptop with a 1080p display (Keep in mind, laptops tend to cost a little more in Europe than in the US).

  1. u can easily upgrade the memory with a 128gb micro sd card ,id be more worried about the actual processor .and what its capable off ,and lack off usb 3 . still for the money its pretty good. where else will u get full hd screen at that price .and a free 3 yr warranty ,personally, i will stick to my lenovo x240 12.5″.its class in a glass.

  2. This is definitely not a good buy. There is Dell notebook, with Intel Celeron N 3540, 4 gb of ram, 500 gb hard disk, for circa 300 euros, and preinstalled Ubuntu. What the hell one is supposed to do with windows on 32 gb of storage. Some 9 or 10 inch chinese android tablet is much better choice for array of tasks, this device in the article is intended for, considering its specifications

  3. I know some will disagree with me, but when you get to 11.6″ laptop for the same money, I would prefer the money be put into more Ram and storage.

  4. Hate that all these systems have only 32GB storage. Would much rather they added another £20-£30 in cost and gave use 64GB storage. Would be much easier to live with.
