European retail chain Medion has been offering its own brand of computers for years, and they’re often priced rather competitively with other notebooks available in Europe. Medion doesn’t typically sell its PCs in North America.
The company’s latest low-cost computer is the Medion Akoya S2218. It’s a laptop with an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor, and Windows 10 Home software.
The SS218 goes on sale in the UK Thursday for £150 (about $24o), and it’s expected to be available in other parts of Europe next week.
While this is hardly the first low-cost notebook with an Intel Atom processor and an 11.6 inch screen, it is one of the first I’ve seen with a full HD display rather than a 1366 x 768 panel.
That could make it an interesting alternative to systems like the Asus EeeBook X205TA, Acer Aspire E11, and HP Stream 11.
Like those systems, the Medion Akoya S2218 has an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It’s not exactly a high-power machine. But it’s relatively cheap for a laptop with a 1080p display (Keep in mind, laptops tend to cost a little more in Europe than in the US).
