LG plans to launch a new music service for select LG smartphones with high-quality audio hardware. The Hi-Fi music service will offer 24-bit, 192 kHz music for folks that think they can tell the difference between that and standard CD audio (which is recorded at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz).

The LG Hi-Fi music service will be available in 70 countries including the US, China, Brazil, France, Italy the UK and Russia starting in September.

So what kind of music service are we talking about here? LG says users will be able to download two free Hi-Fi tracks each month and they’ll be able to purchase additional songs at up to half off the list price.

That sounds more like a music store than a service to me, which means that LG is going after folks who might be interested in the Pono Music Store rather than Spotify or Tidal subscribers.

The LG G2, G3, G4, and LG G Flex 2 will all support the service once the Hi-Fi music feature hits LG SmartWorld.

  1. I really liked their designs on the Optimus F3 & F6 until they made everything bigger..
