Huawei has been posting teasers on Twitter, suggesting that its first smartwatch will be officially launch at the IFA show in Berlin. Of course, the company actually told us all about the Huawei Watch in March.
What we haven’t heard yet is when you’d be able to buy one or how much it will cost. But now it looks like we have answers to both questions: September 2nd for $350 and up.
The Huawei Watch is already available for pre-order from Amazon.
Update: Unsurprisingly, the Amazon listing has been removed, and Huawei has issued a statement saying the company has “nothing to announce at this time. Stay tuned for more details next week.”
Huawei’s watch won’t exactly the most expensive smartwatch available… but it’s certainly not the cheapest either. Instead, Huawei seems to be aiming for folks who are interested in a watch with Android Wear functionality, but luxury features including a sapphire glass display, a stainless steel body, and optional premium elements including a gold-plated watch case and band.
The watch is expected to feature a 1.4 inch, 400 x 400 pixel round AMOLED display with 286 pixels per inch, a 1.2 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.1, a motion sensor and heart-rate monitor.
Interestingly, Amazon says the watch is compatible with devices running Android 4.3 or later and Apple devices running iOS 8.2 or later… which seems odd for an Android Wear device.
Update: It’s official, the Huawei Watch (and other upcoming Android Wear watches) will have some support for iOS.Â
Prices are expected to start at $350 for a model with a stainless steel case and a leather strap and go up to $800 for a model with gold-plated everything. There are several other options including a model with a black stainless steel case and band, and a version with a gold-plated watch case and a leather strap.
